Last week, our local furniture removalists arrived at a job in Modbury. When they knocked on the door they were greeted by an excited customer, her son and two inquisitive Chiwawa’s. At first all seemed to be going well, our removalists introduced themselves and asked the customer to show them around the house and explain what was required of them. The normal process a furniture removalist would go through.

The problems arose when the movers began carrying furniture out of the house; the Chiwawa’s decided these strangers were a threat so they started yapping, as little dogs do. First blood was drawn within a few minutes. These little dogs really meant business. This went on for about 10 minutes before one of our uninspired removalists asked the customer to lock them up. The customer obliged and apologised. Meanwhile the yappers were still going at it. Another 10 minutes went by and more blood was drawn, our removalists wondered why the customer hadn’t put them away, when asked about it she apologised again profusely saying she had forgotten to put them away. After seeing the blood on the removalist ankles, she grabbed both dogs and put them in the bathroom.

How can a furniture removalist work with a Chiwawa hanging off his leg?

Another half an hour went by and our removalists were almost done. As one of our unsuspecting movers was grabbing the fridge, he noticed the continuous yapping coming from the bathroom. Suddenly, to his surprise the yapping got a lot louder, the little ankle biters were back. More blood was lost and more painful grunts were heard.

It turns out that the customer’s son innocently let the dogs out of the laundry. This was enough for our removalists, they put down what they were doing and pleaded with the client to keep the dogs locked up. The evidence they had for such a desperate plea were swollen, bleeding ankles.

At the end of the job, the customer came to the door with a generous tip and a couple of Band-Aids as a bit of a joke.

I guess it proves moving isn’t just a pain in the butt, it can hurt elsewhere too!

Adelaide Furniture Removalists do it all, we don’t shy away from the hard stuff like Piano Removals and houses with really steep driveways or stairs. Another advanced aspect to moving is balcony lifts. Occasionally it is required to hoist items over a balcony to get them upstairs or downstairs, if the items won’t fit through the staircase. This is particularly common in houses with spiral staircases.

About 2 years ago our removalists we performing a move in Salisbury in Adelaide’s northern suburbs. The delivery address in this job was a 2 storey house with an internal spiral staircase. This house was very poorly laid out and had a living area up stairs, our customer wanted her lounge suite up there. Without any hesitation our experienced furniture removalists jumped to it setting up the ropes and pads to perform the lifts. However, this particular house had a pool right under the balcony where we were performing the lifts.

Experienced Removalists Make Mistakes Too

Mark , who is one of our longest serving removalists, was carrying a lounge chair around the pool to get into position when he bumped into a balcony post, even though it was a little bump it was enough to knock Mark off balance and he fell into the pool……..with the lounge chair.

FAIL

Luckily, our customer found the funny side of it.

Mark sucked it, shook off the embarrassment, and finished the job like a trooper.

To our removalists readers, the moral of the story is” don’t carry a lounge chair by yourself“.

I was out working the Saturday shift for Adelaide Furniture Removalists one vibrant sunny day. Things were going rather well, our jobs were finishing quickly and our customers were very satisfied. This is the exact type of shift you want when your doing furniture removals on a weekend. A Saturday is traditionally a day of rest, so at best you want a small half day and a few beers afterwards. This Saturday appeared to be right on track for this outcome. Appearances can be deceptive however, as upon finishing our last job for the day (beer anticipation so strong I could already taste it) our truck received a phone call, another job needed to be done.

It all seemed rather straight forward, only a handful of items moving out of a garage and then onto someone’s veranda. The pickup of the furniture was simple enough and still left us hopeful for the short completion of our day. We then headed to a very busy part of Adelaide, street signs and house numbers played us as a fool. We finally found the drop off house and were “delighted” to find that we could get a park a mere 400 metres away. So it appeared to be a long walk, we set off to find the house.

Difficult moves aren’t so difficult with the right movers

What we found could not so much be regarded as a house than a tower. The veranda was on the roof of a four floor building with no elevator. Now a lesser “mountain goat” may have bucked their heels in frustration and kicked up a fuss. That is not how an Adelaide furniture removalist conducts himself however. We hid our devastation and masked it with a slim line of shock awe and admiration at such a feat of architecture.

Ever the Mountain goat mentality we gladly climbed all these stairs and navigated alleys and traffic on the ground floor. Besides the long climb there were no hitches until the very end of the job. A large slab of glass came up the first 5 stair cases only to be too large to fit up the last stair case. The word “crane” was thrown around a few times, but we decided to get it all done there and then. We decided to do what was essentially a five floor balcony lift with a huge slab of glass. If our customers didn’t hire professional furniture removalists, they may have had a moving mishap. Needless to say our customer was stoked and even sent us on our merry way home with our first beer each to start the afternoon.

I can just imagine him narrating the grazing habits of the Adelaide furniture removalist. “The furniture removalist is a humble creature, transiently passing from service station to service station in natures greatest struggle, the fresh pie”.

He would probably be shocked by the fact that the staple diet of the Adelaide furniture removalists is quite often trans-fats, caffeine and nicotine. With their early starts and heavy lifting the enduring capabilities of the Adelaide furniture removalist would shock and awe the viewers of his documentary chain. Just as the gazelle is born with the ability to run fast and detect predators, the furniture removalist is born with the ability to judge the height of door frames and the angle at which a couch may pass.

If you are looking for interstate removalists Melbourne then we recommend you call iMovers.

They have specialists that focus just on interstate furniture removals in and out of Melbourne. The same as we have a refined local moving system, iMovers has a great system for interstate removals.

It would be the same as going to an ear specialist with an eye problem, you just wont get the same calibre of service from the ear guy.

It takes a certain kind of skill to successfully navigate a piece of furniture past all the walls in a house and then through the door ways. The more delicate and breakable this furniture is then the higher the skill level of the person who successfully gets it out of the house without damaging it.

It’s like the board game operation, if you touch the sides you have lost!

This process is repeated several hundred times a day by our experienced Adelaide furniture removalists, it is more than their job or their profession, it is art. Whilst carrying furniture without damaging the house or the furniture is an art form there is one thing that cannot be accounted for by experience. This is proper prior preparation. The greatest artist cannot make the greatest art if his canvas is old. It is this reason that here at complete removals we prefer to run our new more modern vehicles, this means that the suspension is better, which results in less bumps and rickety movements which can potentially damage your goods whilst they are in transit. Through the combined excellence of well-tuned artists with the support of modern science and technology, complete removals is ready and willing to perform any removal that you may desire with great results.

When you know you are moving soon, and you know that you are moving to a smaller residence then it is clear that you know you might not fit all of the furniture and “stuff” in the new place that you had in the last. A good option is to visualize the current furniture that you have in the current house, then visualize the next house. Try and work out whether it will all fit, if you suspect it won’t then it is time to start culling off the excess. Another technique is described in this moving checklist by this reputable removalist in Adelaide.

The first and easiest items to get rid of are the ones that there is no current emotional attachment to AKA not the wardrobe built by your great great grandfather. That slanted almost self-destructing ikea wardrobe that you bought when your brother in law gave you a gift certificate however, that may be on the hit list. Have a look inside your tool shed, if you see any tools that you realistically know you don’t use and probably never will then add them to the hit list.

Now that you have developed this hit list of unnecessary stuff, or things you can do without for the sakes of downsizing, then gather it all in one place. Organize to have a garage sale, but not just any garage sale. Call the sale a moving out sale, as this will bring on a whole new level of garage sale junkies. Advertise in your local newspaper and be prepared to have an early morning. The garage sale is a great way to make some extra money to go towards your removal, but that’s not even the best part. More great tips on moving have been researched by these Adelaide furniture removalists.

Everything you sell brings in the money, but everything you sell also does not cost you anything to move. This may seem small, but if you sell ten cubic meters of furniture and stuff, then that saves your removalists almost two hours, which adds up to over $200!

So in short the garage sale is a double, perhaps even triple win. You don’t waste storage or living space at your new house with unwanted stuff, you make money from selling the stuff and you save money by not having to move the stuff.
